Bodegas Inteus

Luís Palacio’s father planted the first certified organic vineyard in Rioja in 1980, and quickly converted the rest of his family’s holding when he saw the results. Three decades later, Luís has the most beautiful vineyards in Rioja—pools of green life in a desert of red clay. A plot of 150 year-old own-rooted graciano and tempranillo peludo vines provide the genetic material for four generations of vineyards, the last of which Luís planted himself. His debonair wine reflects the simple genius of generations of patience and observation—distinctive fruit, thoughtfully presented.
"Luís Palacios uses his stellar fruit to craft some of the most stunning, terroir-driven wines in all Rioja right out of the gate. He is a producer to watch." - Andrew Yandall, Trumpet Wine

Wines

Rioja ‘Alta Expresion’ Graciano

Varietal: Graciano

Color: Red

Farming Practice: Certified Organic

Certified Organic. 100% Graciano. This comes from 13 different clones of Graciano in their vineyards, all of which are over 80 years old, and grow in clay/limestone soils. Hand-harvested, then spontaneous fermentation in 2500 liter oak vats. Transferred to 500 liter French barrels for malo and ageing for 18 months.

Rioja ‘Alta Expresion’ Tempranillo Peludo

Varietal: Tempranillo Peludo

Color: Red

Farming Practice: Certified Organic

Certified Organic. 100% Tempranillo Peludo. From extremely old vineyards ranging from 80 to over 100 years old. Limestone/clay soils. In the 80’s Tempranillo Peludo was ripped up because of its low yields; it was not thought of as a profitable variety by many of the more industrial bodegas. Fortunately Inteus did not follow this trend and they now have some of the oldest vines and greatest expressions of this unique grape- native to Rioja Alavesa. Hand-picked, sorted, and picked. Spontaneous fermentation in and ageing in a blend of French and American oak.
