Carballal

Located in a historical sub-zone of O Salnés in the heart of the Rias Baixas DO in Northwest Spain, Carballal is a small, 15 hectare estate owned by the Vásquez Abal family, who has been working their land for over 40 years. The focus here is Albariño made in a traditional manner: organic farming, vineyard work and harvesting done by hand, high trellising nearly six feet off the ground, native yeast fermentation. Two of the 15 hectares contain 45 year-old vines; these vines are vinified separately to produce their flagship wine. The soils here are sandy, weathered granite which allows for optimal drainage as well as pronounced aromatics in the wines.
