Reynvaan

Reynvaan, along with fellow pioneer Cayuse, has played a pivotal role in rapidly putting Walla Walla Washington on the global stage for Syrah. Founded in 2004 by Michael and Gail Reynvaan with their son Matt, Reynvaan focuses on 100% estate-bottled wines which have garnered them a reputation as one of Washington’s “cult” wineries. Michael first purchased and planted the “In the Rocks” vineyard, located immediately next-door to the famed En Cerise Vineyard. This incredible site, whose potential was first recognized by Christophe Baron of Cayuse, is a dead ringer for the famous rolled stones (galets roulés) of the Rhone. It’s no surprise the Syrahs here possess a striking minerality and old-world feel. Matt Reynvaan was fortunate enough to be mentored by none other than Christophe Baron who was the initial consulting viticulturalist and winemaker at Reynvaan. Now fully at the helm, Matt has emerged as one of Washington’s best winemakers. The family has planted another vineyard, Foothills In The Sun, just outside of Walla Walla at an altitude of nearly 1600 feet, making it one of the highest altitude sites for Syrah in the state- right on the very limits of where Syrah can ripen. Viticulture is organic, intervention is minimal, and experimentation with Northern Rhone techniques such as co-fermentation with white grapes and whole cluster fermentation is yielding stunning results. While their Syrahs are the star, their white wines and Cabernet Sauvignon are not to be missed either.
"Our winemaking philosophy is quite simple. Plant your own vineyards on exceptional sites, then farm those vineyards, with crew and family, with great care. Trust Matt’s instincts in the vineyards and winery every day. Be absolutely certain to maintain a maniacal focus on the quality of the wine." -Matt Reynvaan
