Winery Profile

Diego de Lemos, founded by family matriarch Esther Teixero Lemos, is a small, 5 hectare estate in the dramatically steep, terraced vineyards of Ribeira Sacra region overlooking the Minho River. Here, Esther and her sons continue the traditional style of winemaking in Ribeira Sacra with both Mencia and Godello. Esther was also the very first producer in Ribeira Sacra to be certified organic. After seeing the drastic effects modern chemicals were having on local vineyards, they returned all vineyard practices to those of previous generations. All vineyard work is done manually, wines are fermented with native yeasts, and neutral oak is used with the Mencia. The total production remains small, under 800 cs annually, which allows them to oversee every detail in the vineyards and the winery.

“A pioneer in organic viticulture in Galicia, Diego de Lemos makes traditional, soulful Ribeira Sacra that speaks of an earlier era.”
