we had such an inspiring and enlivening time in Austria for @wearekarakterre — got to check in with a few of our great growers with whom we work, but also meet new people and vignerons, talk shop, and eat some Hungarian treats too. Austria and Central Europe in general are super exciting, and we’re grateful to @austrianwineusa for the support to continue to spend time here and deepen our understanding!

🌸🌷🌱 One of our favorite signs of Spring, the Chiaretto from @pasinisangiovanni has arrived! This has been our go-to year-round rosé for years at Coeur with good reason. The backbone here is Groppello, a thin-skinned grape in the same vein as Frappato or Schiava, that needs a full night on the skins to extract even a little bit of color. Marzemino, Barbera, and Sangiovese round out this blend that comes from the hills on the west side of Lake Garda. Certified organic farming and a 100% solar energy powered winery are testaments to Pasini’s long-term commitment to responsible winemaking. 🌞🌱

of late we’ve been having a very fun conversatio
of late we’ve been having a very fun conversation here at Coeur about the exciting world of Italian rifermentato — those sparkling wines made in an old-school style belonging neither to the ancestral method nor to the metodo classico. (It’s a style of wine vinification much older than Champagne and more refined than a lot of pét-nat…!)
There’s a new generation of young, natural producers in Italy focusing on improving their vineyards, accenting and demonstrating the high-quality varieties native to their regions, and producing fine examples of this special category of wines, especially in the areas where it is most historical: Emilia-Romagna, Lombardia, and the Veneto.

Flavio Restani @agrikoi is one of our new producers who’s a fine example of this work: he demonstrates with confidence and precision the terroir of the Colli Bolognese and the wide-ranging, super interesting varieties with which he works: Trebbiano Modenese, Lambrusco Sorbara, Pignoletto, Lambrusco Grasparossa, the list goes on. Flavio’s wines are marked by a forward, intense mineral sensation that forms a zippy backbone; it’s contrasted with the leesy, heady aromatics and soft, clear fruit on the palate of his wines.

We’re thrilled to have added these to our Italian portfolio — and the ’21 vintage just dropped here in NY. Hit us up to find out more about this special new producer from just outside Bologna!

please welcome to the book our very first producer
please welcome to the book our very first producer from New Zealand, @15minutebottles !

🥝🥝🥝

15 Minute Bottles is a collaboration between two families—David Collins and Lana Kennett and Tom Lascelles and Anne Kirsch. The project came to fruition in Europe, when the couples’ paths crossed starting in 2015, while Tom was working for Burgenland luminary Claus Preisinger. With both pairs returning to their native New Zealand in 2021, they saw an opportunity to produce the style of energetic, clear natural wines they’d loved in the EU. With one family based in Canterbury and the other in Central Otago, their intention is to produce multi-regional wines that are unfined, unfiltered, and have either no or minimal added sulfites.

The team shares the reason behind their name, 15 Minute Bottles – “It’s rooted in the fun, energetic, thought-provoking wines we fell for in Europe. When we drank a banger, we would call it a ‘15 minute bottle’ because it didn't hang around for long.” This is only the group’s second vintage, and we’re already very impressed with the quality of the Pinot Noir, which is the first cuvée with which we’re beginning—‘Test Pots’—and there will be other cuvées down the pipeline (Riesling, Sauvignon Blanc, etc!). It’s one of the more energetic, fresher Pinot Noirs we’ve seen from NZ, and we’re excited to have this first bottling as a way of introducing this forward-thinking group of winemakers to New York/NJ.

we had an amazing time at our Catalan wine dinner
we had an amazing time at our Catalan wine dinner with our friends @vinegarhillhouse a few weeks ago; wines and beers were in amazing shape and tasted super with the special dishes the kitchen whipped up just for the occasion (including calçots!!).

thanks so much to @karlsturk @suqaroq and @nathan_thegray for all your efforts in making this a great way to showcase one of our favorite regions in which we work!
